Awareness
Awareness; refers to the act of noticing one’s own thoughts, feelings, attitudes, and behaviors, as well as paying attention to what is happening in the surrounding environment.
Many of you might be saying while reading this text, “I am already aware of myself and my surroundings.” However, the reality is often different. Due to our faulty thought patterns, we tend to interpret ourselves and our environment not as they truly are, but according to our own subjective views. These interpretations often lead us to judgments, which in turn cause us to become anxious and unhappy.
Now I can almost hear some of you saying, “Actually, yes.” In fact, awareness functions together with attention. While many of us claim to be fully aware, we also frequently complain about distractibility and difficulty concentrating. In this case, we must admit that most of us have not truly experienced awareness, which is the key to living in the present moment.
Indeed, the way to remain in the present and free oneself from thoughts about the past and future is through psychotherapy techniques that aim to increase awareness. After psychotherapy, the process focuses on supporting the individual to live more fully in the moment.
